Our History

1948

Federal Electronics was established in 1948 as Federal Radio and Television in Providence, RI. Founded by Romolo Evangelista, the company originally sold and repaired electric appliances and equipment.

1961

With the contract manufacturing business model in its infancy, Mr. Evangelista started BEAM Electronics in a nearby 8,000 square foot facility, supplying build-to-print cable assemblies and wire harnesses to the IBM Corporation in Poughkeepsie, NY for its mainframe computer products.

1963

The name was officially changed to Federal Electronics. As the contract manufacturing industry continued to evolve and mature, so too did Federal Electronics. Over the years, with a growing customer base in the instrumentation, industrial, and military markets, Federal continued to innovate and refine its capabilities.

1983

Federal Electronics moved to a 20,000 sq/ft facility in Johnston, RI to accommodate increased demand.

1987

Having outstripped the physical space in Johnston, Federal Electronics moved to a 42,000 sq/ft facility in Cranston, RI.

1999

Federal Electronics shipped its first integrated frame-level assembly.

2010

Federal Electronics opens a 13,000 sq/ft facility in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico to maintain its competitive position and increase capacity, making them a multi-national operation.

2014

Federal’s Hermosillo facility increased to 18,500 sq/ft to accommodate rising demand.

2016

Federal Electronics achieved its UL 508a certification for Industrial Control Panels in the Cranston, RI facility.

2018

Federal’s continued growth leads to the expansion of facility in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico to 30,000 sq/ft.

2022

With plans to increase the level of vertical integration in Mexico, and based on continued growth, Federal Electronics moves to an 80,000 sq/ft facility in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico.

2024

As a part of its capabilities expansion strategy, Federal Electronics added UL 508a to its’ Hermosillo facility’s certifications, as well as a Class 10,000 Cleanroom to its Cranston facility.
